This week we are saying farewell to a beloved staff member, and welcoming new leadership!
August 29 will be Pastor Susanne Blume’s last Sunday serving as the “interim-interim” pastor for First Trinity and St. Matthew. She has provided invaluable leadership this summer, and we very much appreciate her willingness to serve in this role. Pastor Susanne is also stepping down as Executive Director of Lifeline Partnership, effective August 31. She wanted to say once again that she feels privileged to have served in this position. She will be preaching for Christ Bethesda on Sundays and returning to full time legal work while she continues to talk with synods around the country about a call to full time ministry. We thank her for her nine years of faithful service in this important ministry and wish here Godspeed as she discerns the next step in her faith journey.
Cate Florenz, a fourth-year student at United Lutheran Seminary, will be joining St. Matthew's as Vicar beginning September 1st. Cate will serve as the pastoral leader for St. Matthew's, under the supervision of Pastor Judith VanOsdol, for the next two years. Cate is a veteran Marine Corps officer and mother of twins, works part time in public diplomacy at the State Department, and lives in Arlington. She is thrilled to be joining St. Matthew's to lead and learn as we grow in Christ and serve our neighbors. You can learn more about Cate on her website. We're so excited for her to join us!
We are also very excited to welcome Pastor Judith VanOsdol as the new Pastor for First Trinity. Pastor Judith comes to us having most recently served as an interim Pastor for a congregation on Long Island New York. You can learn more about her here. A formal installation service will be announced for later this fall. In the meantime, we welcome Pastor Judith and Vicar Cate into our faith community and look forward to the exciting new opportunities the Holy Spirit will reveal in the coming months.
